Drew + Katherine : Fall Hickory Wedding

The sun came through the old oak trees that lined the streets of downtown Hickory, North Carolina. The sun would hit in patches to highlight the bold fall colors of the leaves. They were still hanging on and made the air smell of that wonderful outdoor fall smell. I pulled up to one of the lovely victorian houses that you can tell has been under TLC for decades. Upon opening my car dar, I could already hear the chatter and laughter on the screen porch of Katherine and her bridesmaids.

Honestly, that’s whole the how day felt: calm, easy, peaceful, not rushed one bit, and full of laughter.

Drew + Katherine were married at Katherine’s childhood church, First Presbyterian church, located in the heart of downtown Hickory. One thing that made their wedding special, was the nighttime portraits before the reception. The golden fall sun had set during their wedding ceremony, so we used a lot of the great environment lighting outside of the church. A lot of couples and wedding photographers shy away from nighttime portraits, but I believe it’s a time to embrace some creativity and a lot of magic from a joyful moment. Go for it I say!

Also, I loved that they did KFC chicken tenders and fries as their late night snack for guests! (KFC is Katherine’s new initials!)

Here are a few (ok, a lot) of favorites from their wedding day!
